Humble ISD invites families and the community to celebrate the grand opening of Summerwood Elementary’s new “Sports All-Star”-themed playground. A dedication ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at the school, located at 14000 Summerwood Lakes Dr, Houston, TX 77044
The event will feature student performances by the Summerwood Elementary 4th and 5th grade Shining Star Choir, followed by remarks from Principal Dawnielle Shrader, and student reflections on what the playground means to them.
Summerwood Elementary’s All-Star Park playspace celebrates all things sports. From basketball and tennis to volleyball and football, students can explore a variety of sports brought into the playground through interactive play components.
This playspace features a Super Duper Netplex® 16-foot tower with a spiraling belted path that provides an inclusive route to reach the top, along with thrilling slides to return to the surface. The playground also includes a PlayBooster® structure with ramps that provide access for users of all abilities to elevated play, as well as sensory panels and slides.
A variety of climbing challenges, spinning activities, and swings expand the fun throughout the play space. With three different types of swings, including traditional belt swings, a Friendship® Swing for shared experiences, and molded bucket seats, users of all abilities can get in the game and enjoy the fun.
A seamless poured-in-place safety surface ensures accessibility for children of all abilities while incorporating a 15-yard dash, stars, and sports equipment designs.
This imaginative and fun play space was designed and installed by Lone Star Recreation of Texas, the exclusive supplier for Landscape Structures playground equipment in Southeast Texas.
This new playground marks the 26th installation in Humble ISD’s ongoing campus playground revitalization initiative and is the eighth unveiled during the 2025-2026 school year.
Humble ISD elementary playgrounds are open to the public when school is not in session.
