Volunteer in Humble ISD
Humble ISD Loves Volunteers!
Humble ISD volunteers make a significant contribution to the education of children. Each school year, thousands of volunteers donate hundreds of thousands of hours of service to the school district. Mentoring
We need YOU to be a Mentor!
A unique opportunity exists in Humble ISD for specialized volunteers willing to commit to an ongoing, school-based relationship with one child who would benefit from having a special friend. These volunteers, known as Mentors, work with school staff to schedule time (usually 30 - 45 minutes per week) to meet with their student.
Mentoring can often make a big difference in a child's life by:
Improving self-esteem
Keeping him/her in school
Improving academic skills
Introducing him/her to new resources
Providing support for new behaviors, attitudes and ambitions
To children, mentoring means having a trusted friend who cares about them and listens to them; a role model they can look up to; someone who will help them achieve their dreams. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, read below for some frequently asked questions. Click here to see the mentoring handbook.
What is a mentor?
A mentor is a good listener, a role model, a friend. Mentors create opportunities for students to set goals, develop skills, and achieve their maximum potential.
What are a mentor's responsibilities?
A mentor comes to school, usually once a week for 30 to 45 minutes, to meet with an assigned student. A mentor works with school staff to assist the child with social and academic needs. School staff can make suggestions about activities, projects or topics to address.
What if a mentor has a scheduling conflict?
If the conflict is known in advance, the student will understand the need to reschedule a visit. If the conflict is an emergency, school staff will be happy to communicate the change to the student and his/her teacher.
What if my student discloses sensitive information?
School staff are always available to intervene when complex situations arise. The Mentor should be patient and work to establish a level of trust with their student.
If you are interested in serving as a mentor to a Humble ISD student, please complete the Mentor Application Form and the Please complete the online background application. Thank you!
