Twenty-eight Humble ISD elementary schools competed in this year's Science Olympiad, a hands-on competition that challenges fifth-grade students to apply science concepts through real-world problem-solving.

After months of preparation in Science Olympiad clubs, students tackled familiar challenges with unexpected twists, requiring critical thinking, adaptability and teamwork. Students competed in one of three pathways: Space, Environmental or Engineering.

Below are the first-place winners in each category:

Space Pathway – Shadow Forest Elementary

The Space Pathway focuses on Earth and space systems, introducing students to planetary science and space exploration through modeling and investigation activities.

Environmental Pathway – Greentree Elementary

The Environmental Pathway focuses on organisms and their environments, emphasizing ecology, natural resource conservation and human impact on Earth systems.

Engineering Pathway – Hidden Hollow Elementary

The Engineering Pathway focuses on force, motion and energy while introducing students to scientific inquiry, engineering design and problem-solving practices.
