From the moment visitors opened the glass doors of the Humble Civic Center they were met with row after row of artwork by Humble ISD students from kindergarteners to seniors in high school.
The two-evening event was held on January 23 and January 24.
Atascocita High School freshman Paisley Priceβs piece βWild, Wild, Westieβ was crowned the overall Grand Champion of the show.
βThis is a picture of my dog and I took my dadβs old hat and boots and tried to pose my dog next to them, making him a Wild, Wild, Westie,β Price said.
βI loved drawing the face of the dog. I love drawing animals. Every year, I draw my dog Pickles.β
Bear Branch Elementary first grader Carson Cunha earned Reserve Grand Champion of the Elementary division for βEarly Riserβ β an art piece of a chicken eating. Timberwood Middle School eighth grader Mia Resendez took home the Reserve Grand Champion of the Middle School division for βThe Goatβ β a charcoal and pencil drawing of a goat.
Best of Show Awards were given to Summer Creek High School senior Jasmin Byrd for βSolitudeβ, Shadow Forest Elementary fifth grader Kataleia Guerra-Miranda for βOld Country Swingβ and Timberwood Middle School seventh grader Chiara Lanza for βRodeo Queenβ.
Special Merit Awards were given to Atascocita High School senior Ava Pena for βLike Mother, Like Daughterβ, Timberwood Middle School eighth grader Kalie Kendrick for βBulls Eye Gazeβ, Kingwood High School junior Grace McGrew for βQuiet on the Ranchβ and to Fall Creek Elementary fifth grader Princess Egwim for βLife before Baconβ.
In the sculptures category, Best of Show Awards went to Shadow Forest Elementary fifth grader Madina Mirza for βThe Flower of the Desertβ, made of felt, model magic and rocks; Kingwood High School sophomore Madison Knell for βBones and Blossomsβ, made of clay and Creekwood Middle School eighth grader Aashi Narayanan for βShattered Stallion on Carouselβ, made of clay.
Special Merit Awards were given to West Lake Middle School eighth grader Jorianis Rosado for βAlways Looking for the Truthβ, made of paper mache; Atascocita High School senior Brianna Campbell for βJerrrryβ and Willow Creek Elementary fifth grader Levi Connor for βA Flower in the Meadowβ, made of clay, cord, feathers and beads.
