First Place Overall

Centennial's Silver Coyotes Robotics Team Triumphs at Humble ISD H.E.R.O. Competition

In a thrilling demonstration of creativity, engineering, and teamwork, Centennial Elementary's Silver Coyotes Robotics Team secured first place overall in the highly competitive Humble ISD H.E.R.O. Robotics Competition. The event, hosted annually, challenges elementary students from across the district to showcase their robotics skills through real-world inspired tasks.

Using LEGO EV3 robotics kits, teams were required to design, build, and program autonomous robots to successfully navigate challenges that simulate scenarios found within our national parks. Tasks included clearing obstacles, simulating wildlife preservation efforts, and managing resources efficiently—all within timed sessions to earn maximum points.

In addition to their robotic missions, teams were also tasked with designing an innovative app aimed at solving practical issues encountered in national parks. The Silver Coyotes excelled with their app "ParkMate," which assists visitors in locating essential services, reporting park maintenance issues, and offering interactive, educational experiences about park conservation.

"Our students have worked incredibly hard all year, practicing their coding and engineering skills," said Mr. Keith Kitts, the Instructional Technologist and team coach. "Their dedication, creativity, and teamwork truly set them apart today. I'm beyond proud of what they've accomplished."

The competition highlights the importance of STEM education by encouraging problem-solving, technical skill development, and teamwork among students. This year's theme, focused on national parks, also emphasized environmental stewardship and awareness among young learners.

The Silver Coyotes celebrated their victory enthusiastically, already looking forward to representing Centennial Elementary at future competitions and continuing to inspire peers to engage deeply in STEM opportunities.
