WPE Playground Announcement

By Public Communications

Humble ISD invites families and the community to celebrate the grand opening of Whispering Pines Elementary’s new “City of Elements”-themed playground. A dedication ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at the school, located at 17321 Woodland Hills Drive.

The event will feature student performances by the Whispering Pines Choir, Stomping Pandas followed by remarks from Principal Celeste Myres, and student reflections on what the new playground means to them.

The Whispering Pines Elementary playground represents an interconnected city forged by the four elements—Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Intended for children ages 5-12, the playground features custom equipment and detailed poured-in-place (PIP) rubber surfacing that will ignite imaginative play.

A 29-foot-tall “Tree of Life” rope climbing play tower roots each “district” together by serving as the playground’s showstopping focal point. A “Fireplace” sphere offers more climbing fun with varying rope patterns and rewards the hard work of reaching the top with a membrane slide to the bottom! Hangout hammocks can give children calmer moments to relax or socialize, and tactical play panels can be found at ground level.

Students can soar through the skies in the “air” section on a variety of spinning playground equipment, including a wheelchair-accessible Universal Carousel. Playfully serving as “City Hall,” an earthy garden-themed play structure incorporates multiple physical play elements, including a Cliff Rider, a thrilling play activity that challenges students to swing from one side to the other, replicating the motion of pole vaulting.

Making a splash in the “water” section is the “Wetro Train,” or nine-seat swing set, topped with transportation and cityscape panels.

The handicap-accessible poured-in-place rubber surfacing is designed in a fiery array of vibrant colors that direct children through each neighborhood of the imaginative playscape.

The playground is designed and installed by KOMPAN.

This new playground marks the 25th installation in Humble ISD’s ongoing campus playground revitalization initiative and is the seventh unveiled during the 2025-2026 school year.

Humble ISD elementary playgrounds are open to the public when school is not in session.
