Riverwood Middle School Cheerleaders Make History!

RMS Cheer made Humble ISD history this year as the first middle school cheer team in the district to ever compete at a cheerleading competition. We are proud to share that we not only won our age division, but also earned the highest score of all Junior High Game Day routines!

Balancing competition preparation with a busy football season required careful planning. We divided class time between football material and our Game Day routine, held four additional practices using the mats and space of KHS Cheer, and used REP Time to review practice film and make continuous adjustments.

Our routine included four major elements—Band Chant, Situational Sideline, Cheer, and Fight Song. The Situational Sideline required the cheerleaders to respond to a live, game-style scenario by quickly identifying offense or defense and calling the correct cheer with matching signs, motions, and words, all while keeping the full routine under three minutes and seamlessly connected.
The decision to compete came from a desire to give our athletes the same high-level experience many other school organizations enjoy, while also preparing them for future opportunities such as Kingwood High School cheer's tryouts and competition teams.
As there are so many Houston-area middle schools competing and KHS being a powerhouse in the Game Day division, it was time to put RMS Cheer on the map—and our athletes rose to the challenge. Their hard work, trust, and commitment made this milestone possible, and we plan to continue competing each year.

As we celebrate this historic achievement, RMS Cheer is now shifting to basketball season, with our squads splitting duties and looking forward to providing high-energy sideline and halftime entertainment all season long.
