Lake Houston Middle School student Joseph “Joey” Diaz has earned national recognition as a winner in the 49th Annual DownBeat Student Music Awards, one of the highest honors in jazz and contemporary music education.
Diaz received recognition in the Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist category for junior high and middle school students. Often referred to as the “Grammy Awards of Jazz Education,” the DownBeat Student Music Awards recognize outstanding young musicians from around the world.
He is also the youngest member of the award-winning Latin jazz youth ensemble Caliente, which earned DownBeat Magazine’s Best Latin Jazz Group honor.
