First-year art students Eli Seiler and Maryangel Gomez Marcano achieved a rare feat when their self-portraits, using pragmatic colored pencils, advanced to the state competition VASE.
The two advanced to state after their work was showcased at the regional competition on Feb. 14 at Klein Oak. Gomez Marcano, a freshman, said her parents were overwhelmed when art teacher Emily Herrin called them to share the good news.
βThey started crying, because they were just really excited for me,β Gomez Marcano said. βIt was really heartwarming.β
