KMS Dedication

On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, students and community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new outdoor obstacle course and fitness area at Kingwood Middle School. The dedication ceremony featured remarks from Principal Michael Curl and Kingwood Middle School students, spirited performances by the school’s cheer team, dance members and band, as well as live demonstrations of the course by student athletes.

Kingwood Middle School is the first Humble ISD secondary campus to unveil a new obstacle course and fitness area during the 2025–2026 school year. This marks the sixth new outdoor obstacle course and fitness area completed in Humble ISD.

Additional middle and high schools across the district will receive these enhancements by 2027 as part of Bond 2022.

A Closer Look at Kingwood Middle School’s Obstacle and Fitness Courses

The Kingwood course features 17 obstacles in school colors of black and red, offering challenges similar to those seen in televised competitions.

Beginner-friendly features include slanted jump boards, a spider web climber, cheese walls, and a burmese floating bridge. Advanced challenges include a salmon ladder, hovering beams, rotating cone wheels, toggle pull-up triangles, trapeze trainers, a double loop jumper and swings. Step-up clamps allow students of varying heights to participate, and some sections offer multiple challenge options. The course culminates with a 12-foot Finish Wall.

The obstacle course and fitness areas were designed and installed by Greenfields Outdoor Fitness, PlayWell and Kompan. The course and fitness area will be open for public use outside of school hours.
