The High School State Visual Art Scholastic Event (State VASE) is the pinnacle event that celebrates the hard work and creativity of art students, teachers and administrators in Texas throughout the year.
This year, out of more than 35,000 entries, Humble ISD had one student receive Gold Seal and State Championship honors.
Kingwood High Schoolβs Avery Fitzgerald won with her fiber art piece, βWoody.β Her teacher is Megan Tchokoev.
The student and teacher were honored at the May Humble ISD Recognition Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
State VASE begins with each of the 20 Regional Events scheduled during February. This year, more than 35,000+ student artworks were entered in regional events. Of the 35,000+ student entries, only 350 artworks advanced to the state VASE competition. At the state VASE competition, 165 student artworks are chosen as Gold Seal and State Champions. That is less than 1% of the 35,000+ VASE entries for the 2025-2026 academic year.
