Kingwood Football Names Stacy Williams Head Coach

Humble ISD has named Stacy Williams as Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach for Kingwood High School.

β€œI can’t explain how ecstatic I am to come back,” Williams, who served as an Assistant Coach at Kingwood High School from 2019-2021, said. β€œIt’s a blessing to be able to come back home to my community. I’m calling it a homecoming because I live here, my wife coaches at Kingwood Middle School, my daughter and son go to elementary school in Kingwood. This is home for me. I couldn’t be more excited to be home.”

Williams comes to Kingwood High School from The Woodlands High School, where he served as an Assistant Football and Track and Field Coach since 2021. Williams coached the cornerbacks primarily at The Woodlands. This past season, the Highlanders went 9-3 overall and reached the Area Round of the Class 6A Division I Playoffs. The Woodlands defense allowed just 16 points per game and recorded four shutout victories in 2025.

Williams brings 13 years of coaching experience including coaching at The Woodlands High School, Kingwood High School, Riverwood Middle School and Aldine Davis High School. In his career, Williams has held the title of Co-Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and coached wide receivers and cornerbacks for football and has also coached track and field.

Williams takes over a Kingwood football program that is just one season removed from reaching the Class 6A Division II Regional Finals. Last season, the Mustangs went 5-5 and just missed the playoffs.

β€œWe’re going to get to our North Star, which is the State Championship trophy,” Williams said about the vision of his program. β€œEvery decision we make, every rep we go on the football field, every decision our football players make in the classroom, everything we do is designated toward that North Star.

β€œAs far as Kingwood High School Athletics, our North Star is going to be the UIL Lone Star Cup. We want every athletic program to keep doing what they’re doing. We want to keep that trend going.”

In 2024, Williams was one of 12 coaches, high school and collegiate, from around the country to join the Green Bay Packers staff as part of the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.

Williams graduated from Jack Yates High School in 2007 and went on to play wide receiver at Baylor University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Specialist.

Williams’ wife Kene is in her 15th year of coaching at Kingwood Middle School and coaches volleyball, basketball, track and field and cross country. They have two children.

Kene grew up in the Kingwood area, attending Bear Branch Elementary, Kingwood Middle School and graduating from Kingwood High School. Kene’s father is 1986 NFL Hall of Fame Inductee Kenny Houston, who played 14 seasons for the Houston Oilers and Washington Redskins. Ken and his wife Gustie have been residents of the community since 1979.

Williams’ brothers Michael and Montre are also Kingwood High School graduates, Class of 2022 and 2024, respectively. Williams’ parents are Alecia Smith and Stacy Williams.

β€œMy family is all-in on Kingwood,” Williams said.

The Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach position became open after Coach Cale Melton was hired as the new Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach at Montgomery Lake Creek High School in March.
