Kingwood High School percussionist Annie Newton has been named a 2026 Butler Texas Young Master by the Texas Cultural Trust, a statewide honor recognizing student artists.

The Butler Texas Young Masters award recognizes students for their exceptional artistic talent in music, theatre, dance, visual arts, literary arts and other art disciplines.

Students are selected based on artistic quality, capability and the impact of the additional studies for the student's development. Each student receives a $10,000 grant to further their studies in their chosen field.

Newton plans to use the scholarship to attend the Juilliard Summer Orchestra Intensive in New York.

She is one of six percussionists selected internationally and will be recognized at a special event held in Austin on April 13.
