The annual Tommy Tunes Awards, produced by Theatre Under The Stars, the city of Houston’s biggest night for high school musical theatre.
In June, the 2025 Tommy Tunes Awards were held at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Humble ISD was represented by Kingwood High School and Summer Creek High School theatre programs.
Kingwood High School brought home the Tommy Tune Award for Tier 2 Outstanding Costume Design (designed by Joscelyne Oktabetz and Percy Vojnovich) from its production of Phantom of the Opera.
Summer Creek High School’s Hezekiah Mayers earned an Outstanding Honorable Mention for his performance in Mean Girls: High School Edition. Summer Creek had 20 Tommy Tune nominations and one finalist.
In the Overall Best Musical category, the Tommy Tunes Awards adjudicated over 60 high school musical productions during the 2024-2025 school year and chose eight overall Best Musical Finalists to perform at the ceremony. Kingwood High School’s production of Phantom of the Opera was one of the eight selected.
Kingwood High School had 34 initial nominations for Tommy Tune Awards with 11 reaching the finalist round.
