workout with a vet

The skies cleared Saturday morning to provide the perfect backdrop for Humble ISD’s second annual “Work Out With A Vet” program on October 25, 2025.

The Atascocita High School Military Marching Band provided the welcoming soundtrack of drumline cadences and stand tunes as community members, JROTC cadets and veterans arrived for the event. The band also performed the National Anthem. Summer Creek High School junior Dayna Hector performed a beautiful rendition of America The Beautiful.

A special joint color guard, which included – Cadet First Lieutenant Aiden McDaniel, Cadet First Lieutenant Andrew Wagner and Cadet Sergeant Romeo Aguilar of Atascocita High School; Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Jon Druckhammer and Cadet First Class Petty Officer Rex Hansen of Kingwood High School; Cadet Colonel Jacob McCoy, Cadet Captain Jesse Pena and Cadet Technical Sergeant Cameraon Hart of Kingwood Park High School; Cadet Sergeant Major Daniel Hayday of Humble High School; Cadet Sergeant Alexandra Gutierrez and Cadet Sergeant Durden Headspeth of Summer Creek High School – presented the colors.

Kingwood High School NJROTC Cadet Lieutenant Commander Juan Alvarez led the crowd in the pledges to the United States of America and Texas flags.

Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Roger Brown, Humble ISD Director of Personalized Student Success Dr. Melissa Leigh and Summer Creek High School Army JROTC Cadet First Lieutenant Ethan Crane gave speeches to the crowd in attendance.

Following the program, anyone interested in participating in the workout was invited to join all of the cadets on the field, where Atascocita High School MJROTC instructor Master Gunnery Sergeant Daniel Fleming then led all the participants in a warm-up and workout. Cadets then worked alongside anyone who was interested in trying a combat fitness challenge.

Representatives from the U.S. Army were there and they brought with them a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) for the community to interact with.

Special guests for the event included Humble ISD Board Vice President Michael Grabowski, Board Secretary Robert Scarfo and Board Parliamentarian Oscar Silva.
