The Humble ISD Board of Trustees honored six elementary school students at the Tuesday, November 11, meeting for being selected as finalists for the 2025 National Math Stars Voyager Cohort and being selected to the first-ever National Math Stars Pathfinders Cohort.

National Math Stars is an organization that helps identify and recognize mathematically extraordinary students early (in 2nd and 3rd grade) through their Voyager and Pathfinders programs.

The Voyager program is designed to provide both guidance and financial support for qualifying students. For students selected, National Math Stars invests more than $100,000 per student to create a pathway for them to reach new opportunities for mathematics, science, and technology.

Foster Elementary’s Daniel Uche, Elm Grove Elementary’s Lucas Webb and Jack Fields Elementary’s Dylan Barraza were selected as finalists for the 2025 Voyager Cohort out of more than 4,500 statewide applicants. To be a finalist they were named among the top 200 young mathematical minds in Texas.

Three more Humble ISD students were honored for being selected to a new pilot program– National Math Stars Pathfinders.

This program provides free, yearlong mentoring and enrichment opportunities for high-potential math students. Participants receive access to advanced math coursework, personalized coaching, and STEM experiences designed to foster their growth and curiosity in mathematics and related fields.

Shadow Forest Elementary’s William Bradley, Groves Elementary’s Amalia Forcade and Kai Lewis were selected for this cohort, which will begin later this fall.

Through this program, students will engage in advanced math mentoring, enrichment resources, and STEM exploration opportunities at no cost to families.

Building on the district’s continued success, Ethan Thomas, a previously named National Math Star from Foster Elementary, has made remarkable progress in his mathematical and STEM journey:

  • Academic Acceleration: Now in 5th grade, Ethan has advanced to middle school math and is completing Beast Academy advanced mathematics program, with plans to begin Algebra in January.

  • STEM Exploration: Ethan has developed skills in coding and robotics using Micro:bits, and is exploring 3D printing and game design. He also plans to compete in an upcoming math competition.

  • Summer Enrichment: Over the summer, Ethan attended three STEM camps, including Java Coding with Minecraft and Game Design at iD Tech, as well as a problem-solving camp at Rice University.

Ethan’s achievements demonstrate the power of advanced enrichment opportunities and highlight the potential impact of the National Math Stars program for students across Humble ISD.
