We are excited to announce we are keeping our changes to the Riverwood Middle School (RMS) Student Council for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. We will continue our new "work-on" method where students will earn their place on the Student Council through volunteer hours. Below are the details and the necessary attachments to help guide this process.
Key Changes:
Volunteer Hours Requirement: Students must complete 15 hours of volunteer service to qualify for the Student Council. This can include:
Any HISD school service (helping teachers, staff, extracurricular activities, etc.)
Off-campus community service (volunteer work at churches, camps, etc.)
Evaluation Process: Students will fill out an evaluation sheet and submit it to their homeroom teacher. The teachers will then return or scan and email these forms to Mrs. Looney by May 30th. This form includes areas for rating the student’s responsibility, resourcefulness, cooperation, reliability, leadership, and school pride.
Eligibility Criteria:
Students must have a satisfactory attendance record with no excessive unexcused absences or seat recovery time.
Marks of 2 or less on the teacher evaluation form will disqualify a
student
from eligibility.
Attachments:
Teacher Recommendation Form: This form is to be filled out by the teachers based on the
student
's conduct and capabilities. Please consider each
student
carefully and provide an honest assessment (see attached "5th grade teacher forms.docx.pdf").
Student and Parent Contract: This document outlines the responsibilities and commitments required from both
students
and parents for participation in the
Student
Council (see attached "walk on for 5th graders 25-26.pdf").
