Evan Salas was named the winner of the high school solo division at the National Trumpet Competition (NTC), an annual event that showcases top student musicians from across the United States.
Held in March, the competition features classical and jazz categories for students ranging from secondary school to postgraduate levels.
In this year’s high school solo division, 40 students were selected from a large pool of applicants to compete. After several rounds, the field was narrowed to three finalists before Salas earned the top honor.
