Atascocita High School senior Samantha Condado received a $40,000 scholarship through College Boardβs BigFuture Scholarship program.
BigFuture helps students prepare for life after high school by recommending steps to explore careers, identify potential majors and colleges, and find financial aid and scholarships. Condado is one of more than 30,000 students nationwide who have received a BigFuture Scholarship since 2019.
βI donβt know what to say. This scholarship is going to be a huge help to me and my family,β Condado said.
She hopes to pursue a degree in electrical engineering at Texas State University. Her sister, Priscilla Condado, said financial concerns had led the family to consider community college, even as they encouraged Samantha to explore other options.
βItβs life changing for us because with this scholarship, moving forward, this is a big help with expanding where she can go,β Priscilla Condado said.
βAVID can get kids into college. Thatβs not the true barrier. The true barrier is the cost of college. So now thatβs removed, the skyβs the limit for her,β said Sarah Mayhall, Samanthaβs AVID teacher.
Condado encouraged other students to apply for scholarships to help pursue their education and career goals.
