Humble ISD dedicated the Dr. Bonnie Longnion Multipurpose Room during a ceremony June 25 at Elm Grove Elementary, honoring the former School Board Member’s 25 years of service and lasting impact on the district.

The ceremony featured remarks from State Rep. Charles Cunningham, Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Roger Brown, retired Humble ISD Chief Community Engagement Officer Jerri Monbaron, and Dr. Longnion's children, Jennifer and Jeffrey. Guests also enjoyed a musical performance by recent Kingwood High School graduate Marie Popp, recipient of the 2026 Tommy Tune Award for Outstanding Singer.

The Humble ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved naming the new multipurpose room after Dr. Longnion in recognition of her service on the board from 1988 to 2013. During her 25-year tenure, she served four terms as board president and represented the district statewide as president of the Texas Association of School Boards in 2003.

The multipurpose room is part of Humble ISD's initiative to provide elementary campuses without gyms with modern spaces for indoor physical education classes, school assemblies and other student activities, ensuring they offer amenities comparable to newer campuses.

Throughout the ceremony, speakers reflected on Dr. Longnion's lifelong commitment to public education, student success and servant leadership.

"Everybody says that Bonnie was a politician because you had to run for office," State Rep. Charles Cunningham said. "She was not a politician. Bonnie is what I call a servant, a statesman, and the difference between the two: A politician looks for the next election; a statesman thinks about the next generation. That's what Bonnie was thinking about."

Monbaron reflected on Dr. Longnion's lifelong passion for serving children and ensuring every student had the opportunity to succeed.

"Bonnie never forgot the child she once was β€” the little girl who simply needed someone to believe in her," Monbaron said. "May every student who enters those doors be reminded that obstacles can be overcome, that potential can be unlocked, that truly one person can make a difference in another person's life. That is Dr. Bonnie Longnion's legacy, and what a beautiful legacy it is."

The Dr. Bonnie Longnion Multipurpose Room will serve generations of Elm Grove Elementary students as a place for learning, physical activity, school assemblies and community gatherings, while standing as a lasting tribute to a leader who dedicated her life to public education.
