Approved Raises for 26-27

The Humble ISD School Board approved raises for all regular (non-seasonal) employees, maintaining the district as one of the highest paying districts in the Houston area and State of Texas for the 2026-2027 school year.

While most area school districts are passing deficit budgets, Humble ISD is once again preparing a balanced budget with raises.

Teacher Pay Increases

Starting teacher pay will go up $2,000, from $66,000 to $68,000. Teachers will receive an average 3 percent raise.

β€œWe know that great schools start with great people,” Superintendent Dr. Roger Brown said. β€œInvesting in staff is one of the most important things we can do as a district. Our staff makes the difference for our students every single day. We’re also continuing to support our staff beyond salary with our unique self-funded health insurance program that is more affordable than the state’s plan.”

With the raises, Humble ISD certified teachers will earn from $68,000 to $81,100, depending upon years of experience and degree. Teachers who perform extra duties, such as coaching or sponsoring a student group, earn additional stipend pay.

Ranked High

Humble ISD’s starting teacher pay is projected to be 2nd highest out of 15 Houston-area school districts based upon information available in May 2026.

All Teachers Benefit

Raising the starting salary and improvements to the hiring schedule benefits all teachers. All teachers will receive a raise of $2,000, with raises at some years of experience slightly more than $2,000.

Raises for Other Staff Members

Staff members holding non-teaching positions in Humble ISD will also receive a 3 percent raise on average. The district will keep in place a $500 stipend that is paid in December and again in May for eligible employee groups.

Humble ISD also raised the starting hourly pay rate for newly-hired staff in positions such as bus aides and custodial to $13, special ed paraprofessionals to $15.30, and bus drivers to $21.60. Bus drivers also will have the opportunity to earn up to $1,600 through incentive pay. Child nutrition hourly pay begins at $14.

Guest teachers will continue to earn $120 per day with 60 or more college hours, $130 per day if degreed, $140 per day if a Texas certified teacher, and $175 per day if a retired Humble ISD teacher.

Health Insurance More Affordable Than In Other Districts

Humble ISD will keep in place its self-funded health insurance - which offers substantially more affordable premiums than the TRS ActiveCare health insurance that most districts offer. To maintain the plan, Humble ISD will be increasing health insurance premiums. Rate increases will range from from $15 to $100 more a month depending upon the plan chosen by the employee. However, as a new option, the district is also adding a Kelsey Seybold Plan that will keep premiums the same as the 2025-2026 school year Primary Plan rates. Employees will be able to choose from a Basic Plan (High Deductible), Primary Plan or Kelsey-Seybold Plan.

Even with the premium rate increases, Humble ISD employees will continue to save on average at least $1,800 a year on premium costs compared to public school employees in districts with TRS ActiveCare health insurance. For employees insuring a family, that savings rises to more than $6,000 on average a year because the Humble ISD rates will continue to remain substantially lower than the TRS ActiveCare rates.

The district’s proposed budget allocates a total of $13.3 million to attract and retain staff through enhancements to compensation and benefits. Compensation makes up about 88 percent of the annual budget.

Q. As a teacher returning to the district, when and where can I see my 2026-2027 salary?

On Sept. 11, log into Munis Self Service to see your salary notification. Human Resources and Payroll will be updating Munis for eligible teachers, paraprofessionals and campus personnel on 187, 190 and 195-day employment calendars (pay cycle September through August) by Sept 11. Most teachers are on a 187-employment calendar.

Q. If I log into Munis Self Service now, will my salary be correct?

The salary portion of the salary notice will reflect 2025-2026, given that final pay from the 2025-2026 year is processed in the summer. Other information in MUNIS, such as Start Date, End Date, Local Years and Total Years, may be updated before your first paycheck on the 2026-2027 employment calendar. See above dates regarding 2026-2027 salary notifications.

Q. I am a returning teacher who has five years of experience. If I see on the hiring schedule that a teacher with five years of experience with a bachelor’s degree is hired into the district at a salary of $69,850, will I earn that?

Yes. Existing teachers are not paid less than teachers hired into the district with the same years of experience. Improvements to the hiring schedule benefit all teachers.
