Three Humble ISD nurses have been named among the Houston Chronicle’s Top 10 school nurses as part of the newspaper’s annual Salute to Nurses program.

Lara Cotter, Jennifer Taylor and Katy Wilson were selected by the Chronicle’s nomination review committee from a competitive pool of nominees across the Greater Houston area. Earlier this year, Humble ISD shared the Chronicle’s online nomination form with parents and staff, resulting in more than 50 submissions recognizing the district’s nursing team.

The Top 10 School Nurses list, published Sunday, May 3, honors school nurses who demonstrate exceptional commitment to student health, safety and well-being.

In addition to the published list, a special advertisement recognizing the three Humble ISD nurses appears in the Houston Chronicle.

Lara Cotter, BSN, RN
Kingwood High School
Cotter began her nursing career in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Oregon Institute of Technology. She later worked in pediatrics in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she was named Nurse of the Year by the Shreveport District Association in 1998. Her experience also includes women’s medical-surgical and postpartum care in Madison, Mississippi. Cotter joined Humble ISD in 2006 and has spent nearly two decades at Kingwood High School, caring for generations of students. She moved to Texas in 2005 and says working in school nursing has been the fulfillment of her dream role.

Jennifer Taylor, BSN, RN
Foster Elementary School
Taylor is the school nurse at Foster Elementary, where she supports student health and wellness. Before entering school nursing five years ago, she worked in a hospital setting and served in multiple roles as a travel clinic nurse. She now manages a wide range of student health needs and helps maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.

Katy Wilson, BS, RN, NCSN, CCM
Oaks Elementary School
Wilson is a registered nurse with nearly 12 years of experience and is in her ninth year as a school nurse with Humble ISD. Her background includes work in intensive care, hospice, home health and school nursing. She and her husband, Josh, have three children. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, attending church, and engaging in outdoor activities and sports. She said the recognition is both humbling and meaningful.
