Kingwood High School students and staff have been named finalists for the 2026 Tommy Tune Awards, a program that recognizes educational value, artistry and community of high school musical theater in the greater Houston area.

Kingwood High School finalists include:

  • Outstanding Actor Finalist – Hania Schmonsees

  • Outstanding Costume Design – Joscelyne Oktabetz

  • Outstanding Orchestra Finalist – Conductor Jason Watt

  • Outstanding Singer Finalist – Marie Popp

  • Outstanding Stage Management Finalist – Jaimeson Six

  • Outstanding Supporting Lead Finalist – Hania Schmonsees

  • Outstanding Technical Achievement – Kingwood High School, The Sound of Music

The nominations follow the school’s successful production of The Sound of Music, which featured performances by students and contributions from orchestra members.

β€œWe are incredibly proud of the hard work these students and our orchestra put in, making The Sound of Music such a successful and special show,” Kingwood High School head theater director Camee Faulk said.

Faulk also emphasized the important role of community support in the production's success.

β€œEven more important than awards, we would like to thank the amazing Humble ISD community who showed up and sold out numerous performances,” she said. β€œOur students felt your love and support every single night, which created an unforgettable experience. The hearts of our students and the community were truly blessed with the sound of music!”

The 2026 Tommy Tune Awards will be held at 7 p.m. May 8 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning March 25.
