Sean Perez just completed the perfect season.

With a 12-5 victory over Rockwall Heath's Cody Savage, Perez captured the Class 6A 190-Pound State Championship on Saturday night inside Cy-Fair ISD's Berry Center as a part of the 2026 UIL Wrestling State Tournament.

"Just a lot of joy," Perez said in a phone interview. "I put in a lot of work to get to where I'm at today. It feels great. It's just another stepping stone towards next year."

Perez made history with his victory, becoming the first-ever boys wrestling state championship in Humble ISD history and capping a perfect season with a 52-0 record.

"It just feels like I'm building a legacy at Humble," Perez said. "It hasn't stopped yet."

Perez joins an exclusive list of Humble ISD athletes who have won UIL Wrestling State Championships: Eloni Sowell (Humble HS - 2018 *First-Ever State Wrestling title in Humble ISD history), Maddie Sandquist (Kingwood Park HS - 2020 & 2021) and Lexi Shannon (Kingwood Park HS - 2021 & 2022).

In 2025, Perez competed in the Class 6A, 175-pound weight class and finished 3rd overall in UIL Wrestling State Tournament as a sophomore. This came after qualifying for the state tournament as a freshman but failing to place.

"This year, he really did flip the switch," 12th-year Humble High School wrestling coach Chris Kimes said. "He spent almost his entire summer training. Placing last year wasn't his goal, his goal was a state title."

As Perez entered this season, the junior's mindset changed. He wanted it more than others and it was crystal clear in his goals for the year - an undefeated junior season and a State Championship.

He accomplished both.

Entering the 2026 UIL Wrestling State Tournament, Perez bolstered an unblemished 48-0 record. Perez opened the tournament defeating Arlington's Sebastian Venegas (19-3). Perez's victory over Venegas marked the 150th wrestling victory of his high school career.

He went on to defeat College Park's Ethan Sanchez (25-10) and Irving MacArthur's Wyatt Davis (7-5) to move to 51-0 and advance to the State Championship bout. His final 12-5 victory, sealed the Class 6A 190 pound State Championship and a 52-0 record. The perfect season.

"Super happy for him, I didn't doubt it, I had a really good feeling all year," Kimes said.
