Crystal Medina, an AVID teacher at Atascocita Middle School, was honored at the first-ever Global Achievement Awards during the AVID National Conference in December.

Medina was nominated by Humble ISD Advanced Learning Lead Coordinator Christie Huseman and Humble ISD Advanced Learning Coordinator Jennifer Holloway, who praised her dedication and leadership.

“Crystal doesn’t just implement AVID—she elevates it,” Huseman and Holloway said. “Her unwavering dedication and transformative leadership make her a force in education, shaping futures and leaving a legacy that will endure for generations.”

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a nonprofit that empowers educators to prepare students for college, careers and life readiness. The Global Achievement Awards recognize educators who go above and beyond to support students' academic growth and long-term success.

Medina was part of the inaugural AVID Certified Educator Cohort, a program that continuously challenges her to develop her skills and provides her with innovative insights in AVID strategies from other educators to foster student success. Medina participated in the program in the 2024-2025 school year.

“Educators and principals visit to witness AVID in action, learning how to replicate its success,” Huseman and Holloway said. “Her unwavering commitment to college and career readiness has set the standard for AVID implementation in Humble ISD and beyond.”
