Kingwood Middle School Principal Michael Curl has been named the recipient of the 2025 Lone Star State School Counseling Association Campus Administrator of the Year Award.
“I am grateful for the recognition,” Curl said. “This really reflects our incredible team. They help make our learning community stronger and take learning to new heights.”
Curl was nominated for the LSSSCA Award by Kingwood Middle School 8th grade counselor Mercedes Filoteo.
“Mr. Curl consistently advocates for the essential role of school counselors and ensures our work is valued and visible on campus.” Filoteo wrote in the application. “He creates a school culture where student success is the top priority, supported through comprehensive counseling services that address academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary needs.”
According to the LSSSCA website, the Campus Administrator of the Year Award honors a principal or campus administrator who actively supports and champions school counseling initiatives.
“He ensures counselors have the time, resources, and respect needed to implement a comprehensive program that benefits every student,” Filoteo wrote. “He actively listens to our input, uses data to guide campus decisions, and champions interventions that promote equity and access.”
Curl is the fourth winner of the LSSSCA Campus Administrator of the Year Award.
“His leadership embodies the heart of what it means to champion the whole child,” Humble ISD Director of Personalized Counseling Tye Hobbs said. “Mr. Curl’s unwavering support for a comprehensive school counseling program has created a culture where students thrive, counselors are empowered, and collaboration drives success. His vision and commitment truly elevate the work we do every day in Humble ISD.”
Filoteo added: “He truly believes in the life-changing impact of counseling. His leadership style creates an environment where counselors thrive and, most importantly, where students receive the support they deserve.”
