Around Town with Dr. Brown: Work Out with a Vet

While heavy rain is expected overnight, organizers are hopeful that rain will let up enough for the event to be held, rain or shine. Of course, in the event of lightning, Work Out with a Vet will be canceled. If canceled, an email and text message will be sent to all parents and staff through Humble ISD Connect on Saturday morning.

Work Out with a Vet is a free, family-oriented, patriotic outdoor event celebrating service and community. Students of all ages and adults are invited to join JROTC cadets from five Humble ISD high schools on the Atascocita Football Field for warm ups and combat fitness testing. Athletic pants are the recommended attire to protect knees when on the field. The workout includes military group exercises that have been modified for different ages and fitness levels. Afterwards, anyone ages 13 and up can try out the ninja-style obstacle course.

Students and adults can opt in or opt out of any part of the exercise. Bleacher seating is available for those who would like to watch.

There will also be patriotic music played by the Atascocita High School Military Marching Band, a field performance by the Kingwood High School Fillies, and guest speakers. Veterans will be recognized.

This is a great opportunity for students to learn about JROTC at Atascocita, Humble, Kingwood, Kingwood Park and Summer Creek high schools. There is no requirement to enlist in the military following high school to participate in a JROTC program. JROTC is a PE credit. The purpose of the program is to instill the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.

Watch the video below where Dr. Brown teams up with Cadet First Lieutenant Ethan Crane of Summer Creek High School, to share why Humble ISD's Workout With A Vet event is more than a workout – it’s a celebration of service and community.
