Ken Kirchhofer has been appointed by the Humble ISD Board of Trustees to fill Position 4 on the Humble ISD School Board. Kirchhofer was not present in the conference room when School Board Trustees discussed in Executive Session on June 17, 2025, how to fill the vacancy. Kirchhofer did not vote on the appointment. The vote took place in Open Session on June 17,2025, following the Executive Session. All school board members in Texas are volunteers who are not paid for their service.
Kirchhofer will serve during the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years. Position 4 will be on the May 1, 2027, ballot. The person elected in 2027 will serve through May 2029. When making the appointment, the School Board stipulated that Kirchhofer would agree to not run for election in 2027.
Kirchhofer brings to the School Board four years of experience as an Humble ISD Trustee. He was elected to the School Board in 2021. Kirchhofer is Director of Operations for the Atascocita Golf Club. He is a PGA Class A Member who is credited with reviving the Atascocita Golf Club under his leadership. His business is a source of employment for a number of Humble ISD students. Kirchhofer also serves as a Board Member for Boots For Troops, supporting active military. He and his wife, Ruth, have lived in Humble ISD for more than 25 years and are long-time members of Northeast Houston Baptist Church. Their son and daughter graduated from Atascocita High School.
Position 4 became vacant when the person who won the election on May 3, 2025, was declared ineligible because the voter registration address in effect at the candidate filing deadline was not within Humble ISD.
The School Board had two options under Texas Education Code Section 11.060 for filling the vacancy:
Hold a special election on Nov. 4, 2025. This would have cost an estimated $330,000;
Or, appoint a Trustee to serve until the next regularly-scheduled election. With this option, there is no additional cost to Humble ISD because the district has a regularly-scheduled election for May 1, 2027. Positions 2, 6 and 7 are scheduled to be on the ballot in May 2027. Position 4 will also now be on the ballot in May 2027.
