Summer Creek High School senior Camryn McCullough has been selected as a student speaker for the 2025 Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Dallas Summer Institute. She will represent both Summer Creek High School and Humble ISD during the event, which will take place June 16–18 in Dallas.

McCullough is one of just 20 students nationwide chosen to speak at an AVID Summer Institute this year. With ten institutes held across the country, only two student speakers are selected for each locationβ€”a prestigious honor that highlights McCullough’s achievements and leadership.

β€œShe is a role model and leader both for our AVID program and campus,” Summer Creek High School AVID Coordinator Lindsey Hartline said. β€œHer personal growth has been remarkable to witness, and being a part of her journey has been an honor. I cannot wait to cheer Camryn on as she represents Summer Creek AVID at the Dallas Summer Institute.”

This marks only the second time a student from Humble ISD has been selected to speak at an AVID Summer Instituteβ€”and both students have hailed from Summer Creek High School.

McCullough will address thousands of educators from across the country, sharing how AVID helped her discover her voice during high school. She credits the program with empowering her to speak up about the issues she cares about and confidently share her perspective with others.

β€œCamryn exemplifies the qualities we hope to see in every Summer Creek student,” Summer Creek High School Principal Dr. Matthew Mahony said. β€œShe is committed to her academics, actively involved in extracurricular activities, and demonstrates leadership both in and out of the classroom. Most importantly, Camryn is an exceptional personβ€”conscientious, kind, and always willing to put others before herself.

β€œWe are incredibly proud that she was selected to speak at the AVID Summer Institute. It’s a testament to her hard work and the dedication of our AVID teachers. It is truly an honor to call her a Bulldog!”
