FCE Playground opening May 9

Humble ISD Invites Families to Dedication Ceremony for New Fall Creek Elementary Playground at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 9.

Fall Creek Elementary is inviting families to celebrate its new bugs world-themed playground. Members of the public are invited to a brief dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. on May 9, featuring a performance by the FCE 5th grade choir, student speakers and a cheer led by the FCE Cheerleading Club. Food Trucks from Kona Ice and Papa Johns will be on site for the event from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Comments will be made by Principal Jamie Tallent.

The playground features insects of all sizes, plus the fields, burrows and other places they call “home.”

The “Honey-Bee” Swing set features ADA-accessible seating and is topped with custom panels of four bee varieties and their honeycomb.

The playground also features: a Rope-Climbing Clover Tower with a 16-foot Slide; a Caterpillar Rope Tunnel with a 10-foot slide; a Grasshopper “Monkey Trails” Climbing Net; a “Spider” Web Climber with Spinners; an Ant Hill Mound with ants and tunnels; a Multi-Seesaw with custom insect panels; a Dandelion Saturn Carousel; a variety of spinner equipment and an insect-themed communication board.

Students can search for daisies, butterflies, leaves, dandelions, bees and their honeycomb, plus a caterpillar, ant, ladybug, black widow and her web throughout the pour-in-place (PIP) rubber playground surfacing.

The playground at Fall Creek Elementary was designed and installed by KOMPAN Inc. Americas.

New or additional playground equipment, with themes focused on imaginative play and learning, is being installed at every elementary school on handicap-accessible, poured-in-place rubber surfaces instead of mulch, over the next five years. Elementary playgrounds at Humble ISD schools are open to the public when school is not in session.

Fall Creek Elementary is the fifth Humble ISD campus to debut an updated playground in the 2023-2024 school year. In April, Shadow Forest Elementary opened its Yeti Kingdom/Ice Castle-themed playground. In March, North Bend Elementary opened its ski lodge-themed playground. In December, Jack Fields Elementary opened its Space-themed playground, and Oaks Elementary opened its National Parks-themed playground in October.

It is the ninth new playground in the school district since the revitalization of the campus playgrounds began. Last school year, River Pines (Rainforest-themed); Elm Grove (Treehouse-themed); Park Lakes (Safari-themed) and Woodland Hill (Fairytale-themed) were all unveiled.
