Presidents from each Humble ISD FFA chapter attended the monthly meeting of the Humble ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, to promote the upcoming 77th annual Humble ISD Livestock Show and Auction.

Atascocita FFA Chapter President Sarah Keesecker, Humble FFA Chapter President Saniyah Johnson, Kingwood FFA Chapter President Marlee Lindseth, Kingwood Park FFA Chapter President AnneMarie Sokol and Summer Creek FFA Chapter President Kennedy Walton each took a couple of minutes and spoke on different events coming up as a part of the Humble ISD Livestock Show.

Walton formally invited the Humble ISD Board of Trustees and the community to attend the 77th Annual Humble ISD Livestock Show and Auction, which runs from Monday, January 29 through Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Humble Civic Center and Arena.

“The Humble ISD Livestock Show and Auction would not be possible or a success without your valued support,” Walton said. “Participating as a buyer at the annual auction allows students like myself to have financial assistance for future animal projects as well as educational expenses.”

On Tuesday, January 30, the rabbit, turkey and broiler and lamb and goat shows are held and the following day, Wednesday, January 31, the swine and steer shows are held.

On Thursday, February 1, the Livestock Auction is held inside the Humble Civic Center.

Every year the Humble ISD Livestock Show is dedicated to an individual in the community.

This year’s dedicatee is Daron Skero, which was announced by Keesecker during her presentation at the Humble ISD Board of Trustees meeting.

“Mr. Skero is an avid supporter of the Humble ISD Livestock Show and continues to be an integral part of the Humble community,” Keesecker said. “We are thrilled to dedicate the 77th annual Humble ISD Livestock Show and Auction to Daron Skero.”

Johnson, a junior at Humble High School, followed by promoting the 3rd annual Humble ISD Unified Show.

This unique tradition gives Humble ISD special needs students the opportunity to experience agriculture by showing a lamb or goat with an FFA buddy.

“This builds lifelong bonds and shows our urban community our agricultural roots, while also exemplifying the last line of our FFA Motto, ‘Living to Serve’,” Johnson said.

Sokol took time to thank the Humble ISD Board of Trustees for supporting the agriculture facilities that have been built for the FFA students. The Kingwood Park senior took time to promote their annual Boo at the Barn event at the South Agriculture Barn in October and the Santa’s Farm event held at the North Agriculture Barn in December.

FFA is about more than just raising animals though. Lindseth utilized her time to inform the Board of Trustees about the other benefits of being a student in FFA such as competing in career and leadership development events.

“I have personally had some of the most important life lessons taught to me through this program,” Lindseth said. “Through FFA, I have learned skills that have rewarded me with a strong work ethic that will better help me for my future.”

A total of 27 Humble ISD FFA students earned their Lone Star FFA Degree, which is the highest degree the Texas FFA offers. The Kingwood FFA Chapter earned a National FFA Chapter Award, which is the highest award a FFA Chapter can earn. Also, 16 teams advanced to the Area Leadership Development Contest.

This year there are also two District FFA Officers and one Area FFA Officer. The District Officer serves 18 chapters in the Lake Houston District, while the Area Officer serves more than 100 chapters in the Southeast Texas Area.
