July 13, 2022

City of Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk proclaimed July 13, 2022, Kenyon Green Day in Humble, Texas. The day honors Kenyon Green, an Atascocita graduate and Texas A&M alumnus, who was drafted first round by the Houston Texans NFL team. During the 2022 NFL draft, Green was the 15th pick overall.

“It is my honor as mayor to do something special for this fine young man who has been and will continue to be an outstanding representative of our community, ” Mayor Funderburk said.

Green is the first graduate from Atascocita High School and Humble ISD to be chosen in the first round draft pick for the Houston Texans. Green will start as a guard for the Houston Texans in the 2022 season.

Houston Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin declared July 13, 2022 ‘Kenyon Green Day’ in the City of Houston, as well.

“I look forward to watching you because you’re going to do some great things in the community,” Martin said. “We’re very proud of you and it's an honor for me just to be here.”

Green graduated from Atascocita High School in 2019 as the top recruit in the state and played for Texas A&M Football for three seasons. While playing for A&M, Green was named to the 2019 SEC All-Freshman team, was a two-time All American winner, and a Lombardi award finalist.

Atascocita High School Principal Will Falker said the school plans to host a pep rally to honor Green and retire his jersey number.

“It was a blessing to educate you on our campus and we are super proud and excited for the opportunities before you,” Falker said. “We’re going to celebrate you like nobody’s business.”

Green said he was honored to be selected to play for the Texans.

“I’d like to thank God for this opportunity, thank my family, my coaches, my school, and everyone in the community who always believed in me,” Green said. “I’m going to keep my head down and keep working to impact the youth as well as I can.”
