Good morning, Parents:

I want to follow up with you regarding yesterday’s incident and share some reflections, clarifications, and next steps. My goal is to ensure that you feel fully informed and confident in the safety measures and communication practices at Riverwood.

First and most importantly, I am grateful that everyone is safe. The well-being of your children and our staff is my highest priority, and I take that responsibility very seriously.

Several parents reached out with thoughtful questions last night, and those messages prompted me to reflect on the communication I provided - specifically regarding the presence of law enforcement on campus. Prior to the initial report we received about a potential threat, two supervising officers and a trainee had arrived unannounced to conduct a routine, paperwork-based training regarding an unrelated matter. This was not a physical or emergency-response training.

In my effort to quickly share accurate information to calm rumors circulating in the community, I neglected to include this important context. I recognize that knowing why officers were already on campus would have helped alleviate some concern. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Moving forward, if we anticipate any form of training or increased first-responder presence on campus - particularly anything that might appear more intensive - I will communicate that to families ahead of time.

I also want to clarify the following facts about the incident itself:

No students reported seeing any type of weapon on campus.
No students were arrested.

As always, we will continue reinforcing with students the importance of speaking to a trusted adult if they ever see or hear something that causes them concern. Your partnership in encouraging this at home is incredibly valuable in keeping our campus safe.
