Humble ISD invites families and the community to celebrate the grand opening of Ridge Creek Elementary’s new “Magic Science Lab”-themed playground. A dedication ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, at the school, located at 15201 Woodland Hills Dr, Humble, TX 77396.
The event will feature student reflections, a performance by the Ridge Creek Elementary Choir followed by remarks from Principal Miguelina Simmons.
At Ridge Creek Elementary, the Magic Science Lab theme brings the wonders of science to the playground. Intended for children ages 5-12, the playground features custom equipment and detailed poured-in-place (PIP) rubber surfacing that transform scientific concepts into immersive, creative play experiences unlike anything seen before.
The “Ridge Creek Elementary Rocket Bus” serves as the first stop of physical challenge and imaginative play. With varied rope nets, maneuverable components, and solar system panels featured throughout the vehicle, students of all grades will find fun aboard the bus. Standing tall above the playground is the “Layers of the Earth & Atmosphere” Giant play tower with climbing challenges inside and a vibrant exterior that takes students from the magma underground to the planets above.
Connected to the play tower is the “Atom Climber” play structure, a climbing apparatus with ropes and climbing walls for students to traverse. The “Electric Circuit” climber, a net tube structure, continues the climbing and balancing challenge.
A nine-seat swing set, featuring ADA-accessible seating, is adorned with influential scientists. The Multispinner Carousel, Rock-it, and Spica spinner all give students a hands-on lesson in reaction and movement. Additional features include a Volcano Double Zipline, Balancing Scales Seesaw, X-ray Play Panel, and inclusive Communication Board. Thoughtfully designed PIP rubber surfacing extends the playground customizations beyond the equipment itself and creates visual pathways to lead children throughout each section, inviting creative exploration along the way.
The playground is designed and installed by KOMPAN.
This new playground marks the 28th installation in Humble ISD’s ongoing campus playground revitalization initiative and is the first unveiled during the 2026-2027 school year.
Humble ISD elementary playgrounds are open to the public when school is not in session.
