Policies & Procedures
Attendance Information
Students must be in the building at 9:45 a.m to be marked present.
Regular attendance is critical to learning in the classroom. When your son/daughter is absent from school, please note the following important reminders:
If a student must miss school for a legitimate and excusable reason, as the Parent/Student Handbook states, the student’s parent/guardian must submit an excuse in writing that states the reason for each absence and is signed by the parent/guardian or healthcare professional. The excuse should be submitted to the school immediately upon the student's return but will be accepted no later than 48 hours from the date of the absence.
Important Ways You Can Help!
Try to schedule doctor appointments after school or during release times.
If your son/daughter does have a routine doctor appointment during the school day, plan for them to attend school before or after the appointment. When your son/daughter attends school on the day of the appointment and returns with a note from the doctor, the state will consider him/her present for attendance purposes for that day.
If your son/daughter is required to attend court, please make sure he/she turns in documentation from the court stating that they were there. The state will consider him/her present for attendance purposes for that day.
Make sure we have your correct email address on our records. We have an automated system that picks up any unexcused absences and sends out an email alerting you of the unexcused absence.
You can keep track of your son/daughter's attendance and grades by signing in to HAC, HomeAccessCenter. If you do not have your login information, contact your son/daughter's school for the necessary information.
You can find more information concerning Attendance Regulations and Policies in the Parent/Student Handbook.
Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
ARRIVAL
Students should be dropped off in the morning at one of two locations:
front circle driveway and enter through the front door of the building
side drive off of Pine Cup and enter through the cafeteria doors
Dismissal
Car Riders
Print your child’s name and grade level clearly visible in LARGE BOLD BLACK INK on the car plaque.
Place plaque in the front window of your vehicle for the duration of the school year.
Enter/exit front drop off/pick up area on West Lake Houston Parkway (WLH).
Enter front drive from WLH right lane. Keep left lane clear for through traffic on WLH.
Refrain from using cell phones in school zone including the parking lot, drop off, and pick up areas.
No parking in dropoff/pickup lanes – remain in vehicles
Vehicles should form two lanes in the front circle driveway. Cars will use both lanes and stop at the five colored flags/cones. Please put the car in "park" while waiting for students to be loaded. Students will be loaded into vehicles by adults. Cars will be waved through once all cars are loaded with the left lane going first. The right lane will then be waved through. This procedure will help to keep the roadway clear for emergency vehicles and passing traffic on West Lake Houston Parkway. Please be cautious of students by providing them the right of way when crossing lanes. For safety purposes, students should never be dropped off/picked up at the street on West Lake Houston Parkway or Pine Cup.

Help us keep PFE safe by not dropping off/picking up students in the faculty/visitor parking lot.
With your continued support, these procedures will help keep our students safe. Thank you for your cooperation in following our drop off and dismissal procedures.
Elementary Grading Policies
Grading Policies for 3rd-5th Grades
Pine Forest Elementary follows the district grading guidelines, as outlined in the Humble ISD Parent/Student Handbook.
Grading Policy:
The actual grade reflecting the student’s relative mastery of an assignment will be recorded and averaged to determine the nine-week grades.
Late Work Policy:
Assignments and tests must be completed and turned in on the assigned date in order to receive full credit. In an effort for the student’s work to reflect mastery of the content presented in the assignment, no more than 10 total points will be deducted for late work.
Re-teaching and Reassessment:
The intent of the Humble Independent School District’s re-teaching re-assessment policy is to ensure that students have an opportunity to master the District’s curricular objectives. Re-teaching in the District may be integrated into lessons during guided practice and may be a part of the explanation phase when checking for understanding is done. The teacher will determine when re-teaching should be scheduled. For critical skills, it will be done immediately; for recurring skills, it may be deferred.
Reassessing Groups:
An entire class or group will be re-taught and reassessed when the teacher determines that 50% or more of the class has failed to perform at mastery level (70%). The average of the two grades will be recorded.
Reassessing Individuals:
After re-teaching, the teacher may use a variety of reassessment techniques to determine mastery. These techniques may include oral questioning, observation, retesting, demonstration, additional assignments, or an alternative assignment. This applies to all forms of assessment. If a teacher chooses to retest an individual to determine mastery, the average of the two grades shall be used in calculating the grade cycle average.
Absence/Truancy Process
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his/her education- to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual.
When your child needs to be absent from school, please send a note with your child upon their return. If an extended absence needs to occur, please contact the campus registrar @ 281-641-2103, so we can work together in supporting your child. When absences are unexcused, two state laws and the Humble ISD Truancy Process guide us when action is required.
Below is an outline of the Humble ISD Truancy Process.
Daily Unexcused Absences: When your child has an unexcused absence, the district will send an attendance email. Please remember to send in a note to your child’s teacher.
Three Unexcused Absences: When your child accrues 3 unexcused absences, the district will send a warning letter and the campus will contact the guardian to problem solve.
Five Unexcused Absences: When your child accrues 5 unexcused absences, the campus will initiate an Attendance Behavior Improvement Plan. This plan will be discussed with and signed by the guardian.
Ten Unexcused Absences: When your child accrues 10 unexcused absences, the campus will revise and continue the Attendance Behavior Improvement Plan. At this time the district may proceed with a Court Filing.

Keep our Panthers SAFE! Review these Safety Tips with Your Child...
About 26,000 students in Humble ISD arrive at school by walking, riding bikes, or being delivered by their parents or guardians.
Walking and biking are great exercises! If you ride your bike or walk to school and/or home, remember the following tips:
Parents should identify the safest route, practice it with their children, and teach children to not vary from that route.
Students should walk in groups and not alone. If anything unusual occurs, be sure to immediately report it to a parent or school staff member.
Never accept rides that your parents did not arrange and tell you about in advance.
Look left, right, left, behind you, and in front of you before you begin crossing the street.
Obey traffic signs and signals.
When you are near the street, do not push, shove, or chase.
Wear bright colors so drivers can see you more easily.
