I am Mrs. Perla Alanis, Counselor at Lakeland Elementary. This year marks my 14th year in Education. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Houston- Clear Lake and became a classroom teacher. I then went on to obtain my Masters degree from the University of St. Thomas and became a School Counselor. Being a school counselor is one of my biggest passions. I believe in the importance of being mentally and emotionally healthy in order to be academically successful. I love helping our students and their families as well as providing support to our teachers and staff.

I am very excited to be joining the Lakeland Family and working with our Wildcats. I will be implementing Guidance Lessons, as well as provide Individual and Small Group Counseling. Whatever is discussed during counseling is confidential with the exception of if a student is in danger. This includes self harm or if someone else is hurting them.

During my time off, I enjoy doing outdoor activities like walking in the park, going to Theme Parks and spending time with family.

Hello Lakeland Wildcat Parents!!!  My name is Connie Curtis, and I am ecstatic to return as one of the School Counselors at Lakeland Elementary.  I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful school family.  I have been in elementary education for the past 19 years, serving in various capacities.   I attended Stephen F. Austin State University where I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Additionally,  I earned a graduate degree from Prairie View A & M University in Counseling.

As the Counselor, I have the privilege to work with every single student on the campus. I work with students in the classroom, in small groups, as well as in the short-term individual counseling. I will also be meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Lakeland students.

Confidentiality: Please note that all information discussed is confidential between me and your child, unless they are planning on hurting themselves, hurting someone else or someone is hurting them.

Counseling at LLE

As the LLE Counselors, we have the privilege to work with all of our students in PK-5th grade in their classrooms, in small groups, and in short-term individual counseling meetings to support the whole child through social and emotional learning. Collaborating with families, teachers, staff and community members is essential to our role to benefit and meet the needs of all LLE students.

COUNSELING DELIVERY:

Classroom Guidance Lessons: These lessons will be presented in the classrooms for students in grades PK-5 at least one time each nine-week grading period.  Lessons will teach developmentally appropriate life skills.

Group or Individual Counseling: Group or individual counseling is provided for students experiencing areas of needed growth. These may include decision-making, personal responsibility, self-awareness, social awareness, and coping with separation/divorce or loss.  Groups generally range from 4 to 6 students and last for 6 to 8 sessions. The students for these groups or individual sessions can be recommended by parents/guardians or by staff members.

Individual/Personalized Counseling: Short-term one-on-one counseling support is available to all students in grades PK-5. Students may self-refer or be referred to the counselors by teachers/staff and/or parents. Confidentiality is respected.

We will be meeting with every student throughout the school year.

Any student can request to meet with us or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.  We encourage you to reach out if you have concerns regarding your child.

**Confidentiality** Please note that all information discussed is confidential between me and your child, unless they express that they are hurting themselves, hurting someone else or someone is hurting them.
