Cancer Insurance

A cancer diagnosis is impactful physically, emotionally, and financially. Cancer insurance can help alleviate some of the financial burden, allowing you to focus on health and wellbeing.

Premiums are made through convenient payroll deductions, and benefit payments are made directly to you, so that you can use funds for copays, hospital stays, experimental treatment, or personal expenses such as groceries, rent, or household expenses.

Individuals on the plan for 12 months or longer will not be subject to pre-existing condition limitations. However, individuals with pre-existing conditions are limited to a 3/12 condition exclusion. That means that any illness that you have been treated for (or for which treatment was recommended) in the three months prior to coverage by the plan becoming effective will not be covered under the policy for the first 12 months.

The plan is portable - you can continue enrollment after separation from Humble ISD.

FSA/HSA Accounts

Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
An IRS Medical Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) allows you to set aside pre-tax payroll deductions for each paycheck to use for out-of-pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses for you and your family. During enrollment, you will estimate the amount you may need during the year. Your full annual election will be available at the start of the plan year.

FSA plan year: September 1, 2023 - August 31, 2024

FSA Maximum: $3,050/year

If you don't use it by the end of the plan year, you lose it!

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
With an IRS Dependent Care FSA, you can set aside part of your pay on pre-tax basis to use for eligible dependent care expenses. This can be used for daycare expenses for your qualifying dependents/child while you and/or your spouse are working, seeking employment, and/or attending school as a full-time student (or five months of the year). Eligible dependents must be claimed as an exemption on your tax return.

  • Daycare centers

  • Before/After School care

  • Mothers-Day-Out Program

  • Nursery School

  • Babysitter

  • Nanny

  • Au Pair

  • Day Camps

FSA plan year: September 1, 2023 - August 31, 2024

FSA Maximum: $5,000/year or $2,500/year if married/filing separately

If you don't use it by the end of the plan year, you lose it!

Health Savings Account (HSA)
A Health Savings Account (HSA) provides a savings vehicle that allows you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for higher deductibles associated with a High Deductible Health Plan. Unlike an FSA, the money is not all available up-front, but rather becomes available with each payroll contribution that you make. Your HSA balance rolls over from year-to-year earning interest along the way. Distribution for eligible medical expenses are tax free. HSA benefits are portable - upon retirement or separation from service, you can take it with you. HSA allows a $1,000 "catch-up" contribution for employees 55 and older.

You cannot have an HSA and an FSA at the same time. If you are switching from FSA to HSA during the plan year, you must exhaust your FSA by 8/31 or your HSA will not be open, and you will need to wait until the next plan year.

HSA Plan Year: September 1, 2023 - August 31, 2024

HSA Maximum: $3,850 for self / $7,750 for family

HSA is portable-monies are not forfeited at end of plan year. Monies roll over and accumulate interest.

GAP/Hospital Indemnity

Most insurance will only cover a portion of your overall medical expenses. The hospital indemnity plan is designed to help cover your out-of-pocket expenses due to an inpatient hospital stay and assist with deductibles and expenses that are not covered. Benefits are paid directly to you and can be used per your discretion. Coverage is available for spouses and eligible children.

Group Term Life Insurance - UNUM

unum.com

Employer-paid Term Life & AD&D Insurance

Humble ISD provides all eligible employees with employee-sponsored Group Basic Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance. An eligible employee is an active employee who regularly works more than 20 hours each week. Seasonal or temporary employees are not eligible.

The policy pays $15,000 to help cover funeral expenses, pay off debts, or cover living expenses for surviving family members.

The cost of this policy is paid for 100% by your employer. This is a term life policy that is in effect while you are employed. Employer Paid Life reduces to $10,000 at age 65, and reduces again at age 70 to $8,000.

This coverage does not continue upon any form of separation of employment. (This includes voluntary or involuntary termination, resignation and/or retirement.)

Voluntary Term Life Insurance

Voluntary Life Insurance is term coverage you may purchase in addition to the basic life plan provided by Humble ISD. Group life insurance also allows you to purchase insurance that will cover you for a specific period of time while you are employed. UNUM provides this insurance to eligible employees who are interested in Voluntary Life Insurance.

This year, the only employee guaranteed issue amount is six (6) times your salary or $300,000. Spouse guaranteed issue amount is $50,000. An Evidence of Insurability (EOI) is required if electing more than the guaranteed issue amounts. The maximum election for child life insurance is $10,000.

You must enroll during open enrollment. During open enrollment, employees who are currently enrolled in Additional Life or Spouse Life may increase their benefit up to the guarantee issue amounts without submitting Evidence of Insurability (EOI). New hires may apply for amounts up to the guarantee issue without an EOI within 31 days from the date of eligibility.

Employees who enroll after the first 31 days of their employment will be subject to insurability and are required to complete the EOI prior to cover being issued. The EOI must be completed before the end of open enrollment.

Voluntary Permanent Life Insurance

Voluntary Permanent Life Insurance is insurance that you can keep with you even after you are no longer employed by Humble ISD. The policy remains in force until death or age 121, as long as you pay the necessary premiums on time. Texas Life provides this insurance to eligible employees who are interested in Voluntary Permanent Life Insurance.

Additional Insurance Information

Waiting Period - If you are already a member on the date the group policy is effective, you are eligible on that date. If you become a member after the group policy effective date, you are eligible on the first day of the month that follows the date you become a member.
