General Information

A native of North Carolina, he began his musical studies at the age of four. He attended East Carolina University on scholarship and graduated with two degrees in Violin Performance and Music Education in 2013. While attending East Carolina Mr. McCallum’s main influences were Dr. Greg Hurley and Mr. Ara Gregorian.  He was active in performing and also teaching in the ECU string project. After East Carolina Mr. McCallum attended The Ohio State University to pursue a Master’s degree in music education with the highly esteemed Dr. Robert Gillespie. While at The Ohio State University Mr. McCallum instructed in Columbus Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Junior and Chamber strings. He also was an OMEA adjudicator and instructed at The Ohio State University String Camp. Mr. McCallum is a certified Suzuki teacher and has also been an instructor at the Virginia Suzuki Institute. Before coming to HHS he spent two years at Atascocita High School as assistant orchestra director. This marks the 6th year at HHS for Mr. McCallum (Go Wildcats). Mr. McCallum resides in New Caney with his wife Mary Catherine and their three dogs Lucky, Chloe and Teddy. Mrs. McCallum is the Girls Athletic Coordinator at Ross Sterling Middle School.
