Bicycles and Skateboards

Students who ride a bicycle should follow all safety procedures and avoid streets with heavy traffic.  Bikers should use the greenbelts whenever possible.  Upon arriving on school property, please walk your bike.

CMS provides a fenced in area behind the school for bicycles to be parked.  Students should keep their bikes secured with a chain and lock in the bike rack area at all times as there have been bikes stolen from school.

Skateboards are not allowed in the school building. Please do not ask for skateboards to be left in the Front Office or classrooms.  Skateboards may be ridden to school but must be left in the bike rack area and be secured to the bike rack poles.

If you are a CMS athlete, either leave your bike at home on game day or make arrangements for your bike to be picked up after school.  DO NOT leave your bike overnight or late in to the evening. The bike rack will be locked by 6:00 PM.

If you leave school due to an illness, please make arrangements for your bike to be picked up.

Drop off and Pick up Procedures

For the safety of our students, parents and staff, we ask parents to follow school policy by NOT DROPPING OFF OR PICKING UP STUDENTS IN THE FACULTY PARKING LOT. During drop-off (7:45–8:30 AM) and dismissal (4:00-4:20 PM), students are not permitted in the faculty/ staff parking lot on the Sandy Forks Drive side of the building.

6th grade drop off and pick up is located on the West Lake Houston side of the building.

7th & 8th grade drop off and pick up is located on the Sandy Forks side of the building.

Any student getting dropped off or going to a vehicle at dismissal time in the Faculty/ staff parking lot unescorted by an adult family member will be subject to a disciplinary consequence.

Please follow the traffic flow through the circle drives.  Do not use the exit lanes to enter the parking lot or for picking up or dropping off your child.  We have had several “near misses” and want to be proactive in avoiding accidents.

If you have a meeting before or after school, please escort your child into the building using the crosswalk.

Please do not block the bus lanes, and do not leave your car parked in the No Parking Zones in the driveway or on Sandy Forks Drive.

In case of rainy day dismissal, students will be held inside the building until it is safe to dismiss. Parents, please have a “Rain Plan” that you discuss with your child and/or your car pool. Those who ride a bicycle should have an alternative ride home in the event of bad weather.  Please remember to return and pick up your bike when weather permits.

The bike rack will be locked by 6:00 PM. For the security of your bike, please do not leave it on campus overnight.

Please Print and complete the CMS Car Rider Sign for your front windshield to help expedite pick up. This is not a required form but is especially helpful on rainy-day dismissals.

We appreciate your cooperation on these safety and security matters.

Forgotten Items

Parents may drop off items at the front entry way.  Items should be clearly labeled with the student’s name and grade, and placed on the students grade level shelf.  Money or checks needs to be placed in a sealed envelop with the student’s name and grade and left for the student at the attendance window in the front vestibule.

We will not interrupt instructional time to deliver forgotten items. Items will be collected and brought to the grade level offices throughout the day. Students will not be allowed to leave class to wait in the office area for items to be delivered. Students must pick up their items in the grade level office between classes, during lunch, or immediately after school. Lunches not picked up at the end of the day will be discarded.

Late Arrival

Late Arrival Dates & Bell Schedule

Late Arrival Procedures:

Doors will be unlocked and locked at certain times; please enter through our commons area (Sandy Forks entrance/Bus entrance):

  • Doors will be unlocked at 7:45 AM and locked at 8:30 AM (just like on a regular day)

  • Doors will again be unlocked again at 9:30 AM and locked at 10:10 AM

For students who are scheduled to take a test or attend Detention on a late arrival Thursday morning:

  • Detention begins at 8:00 AM; you will need to arrive on campus no later than 7:55 AM and wait in the commons until the teacher escorts you to the detention room.

Late Work Policy

Assignments and tests must be completed and turned in on the assigned date in order to receive full credit unless the student has been absent. In an effort for the student’s work to reflect mastery of the content presented in the assignment, no more than 20 total points per day will be deducted for the late work.

  • 1 day late = minus 20

  • 2 days late = minus 40

  • 3 days late = minus 60

  • 4 days late = minus 80

  • Students may attend ZAP for a possible 50%.

Lost and Found

The Lost and Found for eyeglasses, jewelry, phone/electronics and keys is located in the Assistant Principal’s Office. The Lost and Found for books, notebooks, pencil bags, novels, clothing items, shoes or lunch boxes, etc. is in the corner of the cafeteria beside the girl’s dressing room entrance.

Items not retrieved at the end of each grading period will be donated to a local charity. Please remind your student to check for lost items regularly.

Please remember that items clearly labeled with your child’s name stand a greater chance of being returned.

Make-up Work Policy

Students are expected to make up work missed while they were absent. They will be given full credit for work done that satisfies the conditions of the district policy for make-up work.  Immediately upon returning to school, the student must contact teachers concerning arrangements for making up work.  A zero will be given for work that has been required by the teacher and has not met guidelines for make-up work.  After the student has been absent for three days, the parent/guardian may request make-up work by calling the Assistant Principal's office.

When an absence occurs, it is the student’s responsibility to inquire about, complete, and return assignments.  Students should expect to do more paperwork than those who were in attendance because it is necessary to make up for classroom experiences missed.  The following is offered as a timeline for make-up work.

1 day absence     day following return to school

2 day absence     2 days after return to school

3 day absence     3 days after return to school

4 day absence     4 days after return to school

5 day absence     5 days after return to school

Students absent more than five (5) days must make arrangements with their teachers for making up the work missed within one week (5 school days) after their return to school.  Late work guidelines also apply to make-up work.

When in-school suspension or discipline program assignments have been given a predetermined date, no extra days are given for make-up work.  If students are absent on a predetermined due date, the material is due the day the student returns to school.

Reassessment

Goal: Capturing Learning Through Reteaching and Reassessment

At Creekwood Middle School, we believe that learning is a process, and our grading practices should reflect student growth and mastery of content. Our reassessment policy is designed to support students in taking ownership of their learning by providing structured opportunities to revisit and demonstrate understanding of essential standards.

Purpose

The goal of reassessment is to:

  • Place the focus on learning, not just grades.

  • Provide reteaching and additional support to close learning gaps.

  • Offer students a fair opportunity to demonstrate mastery of content through targeted, teacher-guided opportunities.

Eligibility for Reassessment

  1. Summative Assessments Only:

    • Students may reassess campus summative assessments.

    • District checkpoints are not eligible for reassessment.

  2. Credit Recovery:

    • Students can earn up to 50% of the credit they initially missed on a summative assessment.

    • The highest possible score after reassessment will be the original grade + 50% of missed points.

Frequency of Reassessment Opportunities:

  • Advanced Classes: 1 reassessment opportunity per 9-week grading period.

  • On-Level Classes: 1 reassessment opportunity per summative assessment.

Requirements for Students:

  • Attend tutoring or reteach sessions as scheduled by the teacher before reassessment.

  • Complete all necessary corrections, review work, or additional practice assignments to qualify for reassessment

  • Meet all reassessment deadlines established by the teacher.

Class Average Below 50%:

If the class average on a summative falls below 50%, all students will be provided an opportunity to reassess per the Humble I.S.D. Parent/Student Handbook.

Communication:

  • Teachers will post reassessment information and timelines in the Week at a Glance.

Parents and students are encouraged to monitor grades in Schoology and reach out to teachers promptly for clarification or support.
