Independent Reading
Each day in our RELA classes, students read independently for 10 to 15 minutes. Below is a list of sources to help you and your students find something they enjoy reading.
SORA Information
SORA is an online platform where students can check out books similar to the online library app. Follow the link to our LMC page to find out more about SORA.
TX Lone Star List
The Lone Star reading list was developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table. The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6, 7, or 8 to explore a variety of current books.
Project Lit List
Founded by high school teacher Jarred Amato, Project Lit is a national, grassroots LITeracy movement, a network of dedicated teachers and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities.
Maverick
The Texas Maverick Graphic Novels Reading List (TMGNRL) is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table (YART). The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6-12 to explore a variety of current books.
Spirit of Texas
The Spirit of Texas (SPOT) Reading Program hopes to encourage a greater understanding of what it means to be a Texan and to develop an appreciation for the literary works of and about Texas and Texans. SPOT is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table (YART)
Tejas Star
The Tejas Star Reading List (TSRL) provides a recommended reading list to encourage children ages 5-12 to explore multicultural books and to discover the cognitive and economic benefits of bilingualism and multilingualism.
Texas Bluebonnet
These books will be read by students in grades 3 – 6 during the fall and then voted on in January.
