March 17, 2020: Update on Distance Learning
Dear Kingwood Park High School Families,
During Hurricane Harvey, our community pulled together to meet challenges. Once again, we are in complex and unusual circumstances that require doing things in new ways.
Kingwood Park High School will continue to provide students with learning opportunities while our campus is closed. You can expect that, just as face-to-face learning environments vary, learning will look different in different classes. Our teachers are converting their instruction to a remote learning format. By 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, information will be made available from all teachers.
KPHS teachers will provide remote learning opportunities for students through our Schoology online platform. Each teacher will provide guidance for student learning opportunities for their specific courses. Please have your student check their Schoology account daily to take advantage of the coursework provided as we make an effort to engage our students in remote learning.
Schoology is a Learning Management System (LMS) that KPHS has been utilizing for several years. It is an online platform that allows teachers and students to communicate, submit assignments, participate in group discussions, and take assessments. As a parent you may also view your student’s account. Student and parent log-in instructions are attached to this email. In addition, you may view Schoology instructions on our website.
As you can understand, this is uncharted territory. Remote learning is not the same as being in school, but our faculty and staff remain thoroughly committed to your children’s needs. Teachers, counselors and administrators are working from home, and are not on campus. We can be reached by email. The district is working on options for parents to reach school staff by phone.
The third 9-week grading period that was originally scheduled to end on Friday, March 20, has been extended through Friday, March 27. Teachers will work with their students to complete the nine weeks.
Please note: Throughout Humble ISD, high school campuses are closed; this includes all outside facilities. Middle school tracks remain open to the public at this time. Elementary school playgrounds remain open to the public at this time, and playground equipment will be cleaned daily. Despite daily cleaning, families should be aware that the Coronavirus can live on hard surfaces for days. Health officials recommend frequent hand washing and social distancing.
Thank you for supporting Kingwood Park High School as we work through these challenging and constantly-evolving circumstances.
