October 25, 2019: Letter from the Principal: Sad News

October 25, 2019

Dear Kingwood Park High School Families,

We are shocked and saddened to share that one of our teachers, Dr. Christi Keelen, passed away this evening. On Wednesday night, she experienced a brain aneurysm while at home. She was transported to the hospital and tragically did not recover.

Dr. Keelen taught AP Language and Composition and Pre-AP English at our school. This was her first year at KPark and her 11thyear with Humble ISD. She previously was a teacher at Quest Early College High School, Timberwood and Creekwood Middle Schools, and Kingwood High School. Additionally, her career included teaching for the Amarillo and Houston school districts. She also was an adjunct professor for the University of Houston-Downtown. A graduate of Texas Tech, she earned her master’s degree at the University of St. Thomas and her doctorate at Sam Houston State University. Dr. Keelen was passionate about reading and writing, and was dedicated to helping her students learn, grow and succeed.

Additional counselors will be at KPark on Monday morning to provide support to staff members or students in need. Additionally, we will be especially watchful for signs of distress in all of our Panther Family as we process this loss. Thank you for keeping Dr. Keelen’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Lisa Drabing
Principal
