Letter from the Principal: September 30, 2019

Dear Ross Sterling Middle School Families,

This afternoon, our school took safety precautions while authorities were pursuing a suspect.

Shortly after 2 p.m., an 18-year-old male was seen attempting to physically force an Humble High School female student to get into his vehicle and leave the HHS campus with him. A gun was spotted in his vehicle. Fortunately, the girl did not leave with him and got away unharmed.  The suspect then fled in his vehicle, drove to the City of Humble Police Department, and surrendered.

While he was being pursued by police, we took the precaution of going into lockout-secure-the-perimeter. During lockout, activities continued inside the school but exterior doors were locked so that no one could enter the building or go outside. This is a standard procedure when there is a potential safety concern outside the school. All students were kept safe, and no one was harmed.

Police notified us at about 2:45 p.m. that the suspect was in custody and we could continue with school as usual.

I want to thank Humble ISD Police and City of Humble Police for their support.
