Letter from Asst. Superintendent: April 6, 2021

Dear Parents of Students Taking the 4th Grade STAAR Writing Exam,

Today, students across Texas took the state-required 4th Grade STAAR Writing exam. Unfortunately, students across the state, including some in Humble ISD, who were taking the test online experienced technology issues. These issues included not being able to log in, error messages, and other statewide connectivity issues.

At 10:17 a.m., TEA advised districts to stop online testing for the day if they were having problems. TEA is working with the vendor (ETS) to resolve this issue. Please note that students taking STAAR tests on paper were not affected.

“We are aware that there have been challenges with online STAAR testing administration this morning. Your students and teachers have worked hard to prepare for the assessment, and this experience is understandably frustrating,” TEA stated in a communication to districts.

Currently, Humble ISD is planning for students who were unable to take or complete the 4th Grade STAAR Writing Exam online today and whose parents would like for them to have the opportunity to receive a score on the writing test to take the test at a future date to be determined. Campuses will email information about the opportunity to test when TEA finalizes plans.
