Lakeland Elementary will get a new home in 2021
Lakeland Elementary, Humble ISD’s oldest school, will get a new home in 2021!
The district has unveiled renderings of the new school. The main entry will feature a multifunctional media space, designed to resemble a tree house, which sets the tone for the play-based learning concept and vision for the school. Innovative and collaborative classroom spaces and engaging outdoor play areas are being designed specifically to meet the learning needs of young children.
“We’ve really upped our game,” Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen said. “Learning through play and maker space is really inviting and exciting for small children. If you’ve ever been to the current Lakeland and you see the new Lakeland, I think you’re going to see there is a significant difference in the experience these children are going to have. This is going to be a wonderful addition to this greater educational complex right here in the City of Humble.”
The new Lakeland Elementary School will be located on Rustic Timbers Drive, next to Turner Stadium, which is approximately 2 miles from its current location. The campus will accommodate up to 950 students and is projected to open in August 2021. Funding is provided by Bond 2018. The school is being built on new land due to concerns about traffic and the small size of the current campus. Rebuilding and relocating the school is also less costly and faster.
