Kingwood High School basketball court named after legendary coach Royce Huseman
Kingwood High School recently held a ceremony naming its basketball court for former Head Basketball Coach Royce Huseman. Huseman coached the Mustangs for 32 years. He was head coach for 26 of those years. During his tenure as head coach, Huseman’s teams earned 632 wins, 10 district titles, three regional championships, and one state championship.
Huseman’s success earned him the 2005 Texas High School Coach of the Year Award, the Houston Area Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the year Award in 2005 and 2007, and nine District Coach of the Year Awards.
Former players and coaches from as far back as the 1980s were present to honor the legendary coach at Kingwood High School on January 3, 2020. Rusty Odom, assistant coach for 13 years, presented Huseman with a commemorative plaque.
“I enjoyed taking kids and turning them into a team that liked each other and enjoyed being around each other,” Coach Huseman said. “This is a very high honor for the work we did and it makes me feel good inside that people noticed and were appreciative.”
