Inclusive Field Day gives middle school students a chance to practice team building
Humble ISD Integrated Athletics hosted their first Middle School Field Day, allowing middle school students of all abilities an opportunity to practice their collaboration, communication, and team building skills.
The Integrated Athletics program was developed to create an opportunity for individuals of all abilities to participate on a competitive sports team. It now serves well over 200 high school students in Humble ISD. The program currently hosts three sports competitions throughout the school year, basketball, track and field, and indoor soccer.
Middle School Field Day, held at the Insperity Adaptive Sports Complex, received a positive response from the middle school campuses. Around 128 students participated in the event and all nine middle schools were represented. Volunteers included, district adaptive P.E. teachers, representatives from Educational Support Services, and student volunteers from Summer Creek High School Basketball and Baseball.
Students traveled to various stations, which included DrumFit, Kickball, PAWS, and other field day activities.
The middle school students are now more prepared for the future Integrated Athletic opportunities they will have in high school. Integrated Athletics hopes to continue Middle School Field Day.
