SCHS seniors celebrate continuing education with signing day
Summer Creek High School held its first Signing Day to celebrate over 200 students who have decided to continue their education through college, military, or trade school. Students and parents filled the Performing Arts Center to watch their seniors walk on the stage to declare in front of their peers and family members that they have decided to continue their education. Student names were called individually by Summer Creek High School principal, Brent McDonald.
“We love to celebrate life-changing accomplishments at Summer Creek,” McDonald said. “When our students make the choice to further their education past high school, we want to celebrate with them and their families."
Bryan Contreras, Executive Director of KIPP Through College for KIPP Houston, offered words of encouragement and empowered the seniors to be lifelong learners. Contreras reminded the students to listen, learn, and grow as they embark on their new journey.
“Don’t get complacent, your journey is just beginning,” Contreras said. “I wish you all the best of luck in whatever path you take.”
Each Summer Creek senior who declared they were attending college, trade school, or joining the military receive a college yard sign. At the end of the event, the seniors left over 200 signed college yard signs in the front of their campus to let the community know that they are proud to continue their education after high school graduation.
