Groves Elementary teacher Amanda Kopp named District Teacher of the Year and wins new car donated by Bert Brocker and Texan Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram
Amanda Kopp, fifth-grade teacher at Groves Elementary, is the Humble Independent School District and Elementary Teacher of the Year. Kopp won a 2017 Jeep Renegade, donated by Bert Brocker and Texan Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, at the Humble ISD Education Foundation Gala on April 13.
Kopp has changed the culture of her classroom with independent learning projects and creating unique opportunities to enhance her students learning experience. She uses creative ways to keep her students engaged in the classroom by rewriting lyrics to popular songs to help students learn about science and transforming her classroom into a spy training lab to help students while learning difficult fraction units.
“My biggest accomplishment in education is creating a classroom culture that makes kids look forward to coming to school every single day,” Kopp said.
Daniel Green, seventh-grade science teacher at Riverwood Middle School, is the Secondary Teacher of the Year. Green received a getaway trip to a home in the Florida Keys donated by Christian Eldringhoff and a first-class roundtrip flight for two, donated by United Airlines.
After Hurricane Harvey flooded East End Park near his campus, Green took action to create an initiative to help restore the park. Green launched an initiative called the East End Park Project where his students and colleagues will be involved in the park’s ecological restoration.
“It is my greatest contribution to breathe faith into my students’ own heroism,” Green said. “In spite of all my efforts to impact the lives of my students, they have given me far more than I have given them.”
In the spring semester, Humble ISD schools choose a Teacher of the Year for its campus. The 2018-2019 Finalists and District Teachers of the Year were chosen by a district selection committee based upon essays and interviews in March. All District Finalists were honored on stage and walked away with a new iPad, donated by parents and alumni Jonathan and Carrie Brinsden, and iPad cover, donated by LogoStuff.
