2018 Humble ISD Rodeo Art Show
Humble ISD hosted the first Humble ISD Rodeo Art Show. In conjunction with the Humble Livestock and Rodeo, the Rodeo Art Show hosted an exhibit showcasing the top Rodeo Art in the district, February 2-3. Visual Art Coordinator, Stacia Gower, hopes to give district students a bigger opportunity to showcase their art work in the Humble ISD community.
“For many years we have participated in the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art program and over the years we have enjoyed seeing our students receive awards and recognition,” Gower said. “We have wanted to bring this type of event home to our local community and felt this would be a great year to begin a local rodeo art program..
Hannah Boss, Kingwood Park High School freshman, has participated in Rodeo art since elementary school. This year her mixed media artwork titled “STEER Clear” received a special merit ribbon.
“Last year I painted a saddle but this year I wanted to challenge myself,” Boss said. “This year I chose both an animal and a human for my art piece. The addition of movement makes the piece more interesting.” Last year Boss received a rodeo art ribbon for artwork and she was also offered a full scholarship to the Glassell School of Art in Houston.
Rodeo Art allows students to celebrate western heritage through art. The Humble ISD Rodeo Art program gives students the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of western themed art in any of the art genres offered. The localized exhibit will also give the community and families of the student artists an opportunity to see the rodeo art up close.
The Arts Education Department is looking forward to growing the rodeo art program and hopes that it will be another avenue for the community to experience and enjoy student artwork. If you missed the exhibit you can view selected pieces from the exhibit at the Humble Civic Center on February 9 and at the April 13 Education Foundation Gala.
